"Being cold, wet, lost and hungry is a crime?!" Yeshua the Nazarene

“We had a young Honduran girl. She was shivering and cold and begging for help,” says Metz. Waite tells us, “She walked for 20 days all the way from Honduras on foot.” The couple says the teenage girl had been separated from a group of 13 and was on the run. “I imagine she had a good case of pneumonia, if nothing worse, because it was down to 47 degrees. She was soaking wet,” described Waite. It’s the latest face-to-face encounter the couple has had with an illegal immigrant. And Waite tells us it’s just one example of the illegal activity they see on their land everyday. "

Can't He Even Create an Original Book Title?

GlennBeck, of An Inconvenient Book fame (du jour), criticized PBS for saying that his book is not number one on the New York Times best-smeller list, when in fact it is, or is near there. I'm not sure which. I suppose people have grown tired of reading actual reading material, such as Gore Vidal. Well, some would call Glenn's criticism a cheap shot. Of course, lots of squawking heads on the "right" (Read: VOA, the Voice of the Aristocracy) take cheap shots. That's some 80% of what they are about. The crowd who like "tough guys" (TM) and bullies watch guys like Glenn Beck no matter what they say, and we can be sure that they will never say anything really deep nor really heartfelt on camera. That doesn't bring in the ratings, nor the money. Beck's book rails against the horrors of "political correctness"--which apparently doesn't include the sneering lockstep mentality of his Might Makes Right, "brutal torture is okay" views which, though not out in the open, are certainly beneath the surface. Among his fans that I've met, this authoritarian, kick-em-in-the-face outlook is quite open, and quite shocking. But he is another encourager of "OBEY THE BIG MAN" along with O'Reilly, Savage, and Coulter, to name a few. They say to anyone who disagrees, "We have the money, the planes, the guns, and (chuckle) the advertisers. We do whatever we want, so sit down, and SHUT UP, dirty commie/hippie/union member/poor person/dissenter/student of history!" But, I must say, Glenn still looks like Dennis the Menace...

Socialized Medicine

I have a friend in Indiana who has a wonderful idea: Write all our elected representatives a postcard with a sentence which reads: Dear Sir or Madam, I also want to receive the good, subsidized health care which you receive.

Brilliant. I'm in on it. How about you?

Plus ca change

One day I saw an engraving, perhaps you have seen it. It is from Europe, sometime in the 1500s, judging from the clothing. As art, it's simple, but quite good. As a jolt to the conscience, it's perfect. The scene, if I recall correctly, is of a man pouring water down another man's throat while yet another man holds the victim immobile on a wide bench.
Perhaps our current Resident and Demander in Chief and his henchmen (and women) are actually magistrates from pre-Enlightenment Europe. Or, to paraphrase Monty Python, "No one expects the Cheneysh Inquisition!"

Well, to put it mildly: Torture is wrong, end of story.

Let Kleagles Soar

In all their hyperventilating excitement over Ron Paul, his fans may have overlooked the following (and let's hope that they care):

Be Afraid, Be Very Ready

On October 17th, 2006, with one fell swoop of the pen, President Bush quietly signed into law the "John Warner Defense Authorization Act of 2007" (H.R.5122) (2), effectively positioning the US Government full and complete autonomy at a Federal Level regardless and irrespective of local authority. This act is [b]not[b] the same legislation as the previously featured Military Commissions Act, but was made official that same day. This act officially allows the President to override all state and local authority and station troops anywhere in America as well as relinquishes the National Guard of control without the consent of the Governor or local authorities in order to "suppress public disorder". The law also facilitates militarized police round-ups and detention of protesters, so called "illegal aliens," "potential terrorists" and other "undesirables" for detention in facilities currently under construction by Halliburton.

Time to pay close attention...I have forgotten this paragraph's source, but it's true, all true...
